Duisburg soccer coach Norbert Meier has been suspended indefinitely for head-butting an opposing player.
Late in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Cologne, Meier and Cologne’s Albert Streit came face-to-face resulting in the Duisburg coach head-butting the player.
“I blacked out and I apologize,” Meier said Wednesday, adding that he had phoned Streit to apologize.
Horst Hilpert, the German soccer federation’s chief disciplinary supervisor, said Meier’s behavior could not be condoned.
Bundesliga newcomers Duisburg had already fined Meier a reported €10,000.
