Brazilian striker Elber scored twice to help Bayern Munich to a 3-1 victory over Bayer Leverkusen to earn the Bundesliga leaders a place in the German Cup final.

Elber’s goals came in the space of a minute midway through the second-half after Michael Ballack had opened the scoring against his former team, only to see his effort cancelled out by Carsten Ramelow’s strike shortly after the interval.

‘It was a strong performance from us,’ said Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld.

‘We opened the scoring just at the right time and reacted immediately after they scored. We were focused and determined. I’m very pleased.’

Bayern will play Kaiserslautern in the final on May 31 in Berlin.

Bottom of the table Kaiserslautern, shrugged aside their poor league form, beating Werder Bremen 3-0 on Tuesday and with Bayern on course to qualify for the Champions League, almost certainly guaranteed themselves a place in next season’s UEFA Cup.
