Uefa is ready to listen to proposals from leading European clubs regarding the creation of a continental league.
The European Super League concept has been mooted for some time, with clubs eager to exploit the financial benefits it would bring.
The current economic climate appears to have made the plans more attractive to clubs, with the European Club Association (ECA) talking up the proposals once again during a meeting in Switzerland last week.
It is believed a Super League, which would replace the UEFA Champions League and Uefa Cup competitions, made up of three divisions with 20 to 22 teams in each tier has some support from inside Uefa.
“Everybody knows my philosophy about European competitions, but the world is changing and we must be careful about that,” Uefa president Michel Platini told France Football.
“If it was up to me, I would revert to European Cups as they were at the beginning, with just knockout rounds. But we must listen carefully to any suggestion.
“If (clubs) come and talk to us, we would listen to them and then decide.”
European domestic leagues would remain should the idea be implemented, but would need to be restructured in order to allow the clubs to compete in both competitions.
