Lokomotiv Moscow have won the Russian Premier-Liga title after beating CSKA Moscow 1-0 in the winner-takes-all play-off used to determine the title.

A first-half goal Dmitri Loskov’s first-half goal brought Lokomotiv the first league title in their history. The play-offcame due to to both teams finishing level on 66 points at the end of the regular season.

Lokomotiv took the lead on six minutes, when Loskvov collected a deflected shot from Sergei Ignashevitch and fired a low drive past CSKA goalkeeper Ruslan Nigmatullin.

CSKA pressed forward in search of an equaliser but were unable to breach the resolute Lokomotiv defence.

The win brings Yuri Semin’s team their first title.

“We played brilliant football today,” said Semin afterwards.

“We’ve played eight games in 25 days,’ he added. ‘

‘People were hoping to take advantage of that, hoping we’d be exhausted, but fortunately, we were up to the task, and I want to thank my players for that.”
