Andres Iniesta is confident he will be fit for the Champions League final against Manchester United after tests revealed that his injury is not as serious as first thought.

The Spanish midfielder limped out of the 3-3 draw against Villarreal on Sunday and initial examinations made him a doubtful starter for the May 27 final.

But a new round of tests on Monday have confirmed that Iniesta has suffered only a “small tear” to the muscle in his right leg and that he will recover quickly.

He underwent tests on the injury today, after which he told Sport newspaper: “I will be in Rome.

“It is a small tear that wasn’t as bad as we thought.

“From here until the final I will only think about Rome.

“The desire that I have to play in this final is going to help (my recovery) a lot.”

Iniesta will miss the Copa del Rey final on Wednesday against Athletic Bilbao and coach Pep Guardiola may be tempted to rest him until the Champions League final.
