Sevilla defender Pablo Alfaro has been banned for four games by the Spanish federation for kicking Real Madrid’s Michel Salgado in their catch-up league match on January 2.

Alfaro was punished on the strength of video evidence since his assault on the Madrid defender had been missed by the match referee.

The competitions committee said in a statement that Alfaro had kicked Salgado in retaliation for a mistimed tackle.

Salgado had to be carried off. He was not as seriously injured as had been feared at first.
