Jacques Santini has placed pressure on his French squad claiming that even his big name players should not take their place for granted.
Santini was quizzed about the fitness of Chelsea centre-back Marcel Desailly, who is brated doubtful for Sunday’s opener against England.
“There is not a player in the squad who can say for sure that he is going to play against England on Sunday,” Santini replied.
The French manager is unsure whether captain Desailly will be able to shake off the knee injury that has sidelined him for France’s two previous warm-up games.
“Nobody can take anything for granted – we will pick the players in the best shape on the day.”
In France’s victories over Andorra and the Ukraine, Santini opted for a central defensive partnership of Lillian Thuram and Mikael Silvestre, with Gallas and Lizarazu occupying the fullback berths.
