French defender William Gallas looks set to sign a new contract with Chelsea in the summer.

Gallas, 25, signed for Chelsea from Marseille two years ago for £6.2 million. Even though he has three years left on his contract, he has a clause which allows him to leave if an offer for œ7.5 comes in for him.

The FRenchman has impressed alongside compatriot Marcel Desailly this season and has attracted interest from Arsenal, but his agent Pape Diouf believes he will remain at Stamford Bridge.

“He is happy at Chelsea and has greatr espect for Claudio Ranieri,” Diouf told the Evening Standard.

“We are close to an agreement and William wants to stay.”

Ken Bates hassaid that he will open contract negotiations at the end of the season with a number of players who have impressed with their recent form.
