Gennaro Gattuso looks set to recover from injury in time for the second leg of Milan’s Champions League semi-final against Manchester United.
The midfielder left the pitch shortly after half-time in Tuesday’s first leg, but Milan’s medical staff are confident he will be fit for the return leg in Italy next Wednesday.
“Gattuso suffered a knock to the sole of his foot and left the field due to the pain,” reported the club’s official website.
“However, we are optimistic about his recovery for Milan-Manchester. He should be available for the return leg at the San Siro.”
Paolo Maldini, though, is doubtful for the game after aggravating a knee injury.
The defender did not appear for the second half of the tie at Old Trafford, but is determined to play in the second leg.
“When Rino (Gattuso) and I went off the pitch, I think United’s attitude and approach to the match changed,” he claimed.
“I will do everything possible to be there for the return game at the San Siro and I maintain that we have every chance to make it.”
