Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs has been ruled out for the next four weeks after suffering a fractured arm against Aston Villa.
The winger picked up the injury after colliding with Villa midfielder Steve Sidwell in the second half.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson had been hoping for a positive report on Giggs’ injury, but X-rays have shown the 36-year-old has fractured his arm.
It means the veteran will miss several key games for United, starting with next Tuesday’s Champions League trip to Milan.
He will also sit out the Carling Cup final against Villa at Wembley later this month and is scheduled to miss Premier League fixtures against Everton, West Ham United and Wolves.
The absence of Giggs is compounded by a three-match suspension for Nani, who was sent off in the first half against Villa.
