Parma striker Alberto Gilardino has again publicly stated his desire to secure a move to Roma, but his club have insisted he will stay.
Prama director Luca Baraldi affirmed his club’s position when asked about the prospect of selling Gilardino;
“I will only repeat what I said several weeks ago. The player is not for sale, and there is no chance of re-evaluating this position,” said Baraldi.
“Gilardino is staying at Parma and we won’t open negotiations, not even if someone offers us £30m.”
However, given Parma’s precarious financial position, the club would be forced to sell should any of Gilardino’s suitors meet their valuation.
Parma have already had to sell what were the makings of a side that could challenge seriously for the Scudetto. Adriano, Nakata, Junior, Moretti and Ferrari have all left the club, as has manager Cesare Prandelli – the latter pair both going to Roma.
Gilardino meanwhile, has outlined his ambition to become a Roma player.
Speaking during Italy’s preparation for the Olympics, he announced: “I already feel as if I am 60 per cent a Roma player.
“They are the only club to have made a concrete bid and I hope for the move to be completed as soon as possible.”
