Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier has dismissed speculation linking him with a move to Monaco, claiming that his comments were taken out of context.
The Frenchman has been linked with a move to French club Monaco, but Houllier told BBC Sport: “There is no truth in it at all.
“The board, the players and the fans know my position. I am staying at Liverpool and I’ve never envisaged anything else.”
Explaining the source of the rumours, the Liverpool coach revealed that Prince Albert of Monaco had attended a match at Anfield.
Speaking to the Liverpool website, Houllier stated: “It’s true that Prince Albert of Monaco attended our game against Arsenal, but this was purely in a social capacity as he is a long standing friend of both myself and Arsene Wenger.
“Let’s put the record straight – I am not in discussion with and will not be entering into talks with Monaco about any role at the club.
“Believe me, I’m here for the long haul.”
“I gave an interview to Le Journal du Dimanche and was asked about recent speculation linking me with Monaco, but my comments have been taken out of context.
“Politely expressing respect for a club does not mean that I will be leaving Liverpool. “I remain totally committed to Liverpool and the job I’m doing here and I want the fans to know that.
“I love this club and the supporters and after all they’ve done for me, I’m not about to walk out on them.”
Houllier is reported to have told Le Journal du Dimanche: “I would be nasty if I said that Monaco is a club that does not interest me.
“I know Prince Albert very well and if the club has a great project in the future then why not?”
