Under-pressure Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier has admitted he could leave the club and return to France, according to reports.
Houllier has been linked with a switch to French club Monaco to become their technical director, working in conjunction with coach Didier Deschamps.
According to the Daily Star newspaper, Houllier could leave at the end of the season.
“I would be nasty if I said that Monaco is a club that does not interest me,” Houllier is reported to have told French newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche.
“I know Prince Albert very well and if the club has a great project in the future then why not?”
Asked about theprospect of working with Deschamps, Houllier replied: “I like him and I notice that he’s learned quickly as a coach and he has good results,” he added.
But Patrick Urbini of l’Equipe believes such a move is unlikely and thinks Houllier was merely being respectful to Monaco.
“He has no intention to leave Liverpool,” Urbini told Sky Sports News.
“There is no discussion at the time (between Monaco and Houllier)- Monaco are looking for someone who has the profile of Arsene Wenger or Gerard Houllier.
“The day Houllier will return to France, he will not be involved with a club.”
Houllier has come under increasing pressure in recent months. Theyy were knocked out of the Champions League last November and their subsequent league form has been dismal. The club currently lie 7th in the Premier League, 17 points behind leaders Arsenal, but more significantly, five points adrift of an automatic Champions League place.
