Ronny Johnsen has joined fellow Norwegian Oyvind Leonhardsen on trial with Bundesliga club Schalke.

Spurs midfielder Leonhardsen has llong been a target for the German club and a bid looks likely now that Leonhardsen has confirmed his fitness.

Johnsen, meanwhile, is eager to find a club after neing released by Manchester United in the summer. Despite interest from several Premiership clubs, the injury-prone 30-year-old defender, has failed to atract a firm offer.

Schalke look set to bolster their squad by winning the race to sign Uruguayan defender Dario Rodriguez. Rodriguez, who attracted attention through his impressive World Cup displays, has travelled to Germany to discuss terms with the club.
