The Greek and Turkish joint bid to host Euro 2008 will come under scrutiny ahead of the UEFA cup clash between Panithinaikos and Fenerbahce.

The tie is balanced at 1-1 following the first leg in Istanbul. However, that game was marred by crowd trouble and a repeat of that would have a detrimental effect on the joint bid.

Turkish dignitaries at that fixture where targeted by an unruly element among the Greek travelling support with several reportedly struck by missiles.

To counter a repeat performance, the Turkish champions have been allocated only 150 travelling tickets and there will be a “substantial police presence” at the game.

Fenerbahce also face sanctions from the Turkish FA over inadequate policing in their 6-0 derby victory over Galatasaray when there was also crowd trouble.
