Juventus coach Fabio Capello has targeted former Chelsea and France defender Marcel Desailly, but he will face stiff competition from several clubs.

The 35-year-old, who was released by Chelsea this summer, is currently without a team, although several clubs have expressed an interest in him.

Manchester City are thought to be linked with the powerful defender, but Capello hopes to convince Desailly to move back Italy where he once played for Milan.

The Juve coach thinks Desailly’s experience and quality will be useful as he builds a team that will challenge for both domestic and European honours.

Juve’s need for a solid central defender was highlighted when Djurgardens held them to a 2-2 draw in the UEFA Champions League qualifier at the Stadio Delle Alpi in Turin.
