Newcastle have not given up hope of signing World Cup winner Kleberson with the Premier League club hopeful of luring the Brazilian to Tyneside ahead of tonight’s transfer deadline.

The Magpies, who are expected to complete the signing of Jonathan Woodgate later today, will re-open talks about a deal for the Brazil midfielder.

Last week Newcastle’s chairman Freddie Shepherd flew to Sao Paolo to discuss a bid for Kleberson but their valuation of the 23-year-old fell below what Kleberson’s club Atletico Paranaense were demanding.

However, with no other club matching that offer and given the uncertainty of the transfer market in Europe, Atletico may be prepared to accept a reduced offer.
