Former Celtic striker Henrik Larsson has agreed to join Barcelona on a one-year deal, with an option for a second year.
“He has been on the list of our coaching staff for some time,” said club president Joan Laporta.
The Swedish international left Celtic at the end of the season on a free transfer after spending seven prolific years with the Scottish club.
Plenty of clubs were keen to sign the player but his agent Rob Jansen said Barcelona were always his preferred choice.
Barca sports director Txiki Begiristain said: “It is something to be proud of for the club that a player that finishes his contract does not want to talk to anyone else until Barca have given him a response.”
Larsson is Barcelona’s second major signing this summer. Last week they announced the capture Monaco’s Ludovic Guily.
