Lazio ask for UEFA Cup postponement

Lazio have asked UEFA to postpone their UEFA Cup fourth-round tie at Wisla Krakow because the pitch is unplayable, they claim.

UEFA are expected to make a final decision about the pitch at 17.00 , three hours before the kick-off. The picth is understood to be icy in patches after poor weather hit Poland earlier in the week.

‘They said the field is too hard to play on,’ Wisla spokesman Jaroslaw Krzoska said.

UEFA officials declared the pitch fit yesterday, but temperatures have since dropped and the pitch has hardened. With further cold weather forecast, there is the possibility that the pitch will freeze again, making the surface unplayable.
