Paulo Di Canio is set for talks this afternoon with the Lazio directors, as the Serie A club hopes to take the former Biancocelesti star back to the Olimpico.
Although the Lazio board would only be able to offer Di Canio around half of his current £600,000 Charlton salary, they are able to offer him the opportunity of being able to end his playing days with the club he has always supported.
New Lazio president Claudio Lotito said :”We will contact him. If he is willing to waive a transfer fee, which is possible seeing as he has always spoken highly of Lazio, then we’ll welcome Di Canio with open arms. Unfortunately, the financial situation is still extremely delicate and we cannot afford to pay certain wages.”
36-year-old Di Canio has been in Britain since signing for Celtic in1996. Since then he has played for Sheffield Wednesday, where he infamously pushed referee Paul Alcock to the floor, West Ham United and most recently Charlton.
