Liverpool striker Jari Litmanen has admitted that he has become increasingly disillusioned with his prolonged spells on the sidelines at Anfield.

Litmanen been largely surplus to requirements at Liverpool since joining from Barcelona in January 2001.

The former Ajax player is behind Michael Owen, Emile Heskey, Milan Baros and now new signing El Hadji Diouf in the pecking order at Anfield and his peripheral status at the club has begun to take its’ toll.

“Liverpool are one of the favourites for the title but they might have a bigger problem keeping everyone happy at the club if they are not playing regularly,” he told The Sun.

“Houllier is the boss. At Liverpool nobody argues with him and I will not either. I just have to accept my situation – even if it makes me very miserable.

“I would really like to play a bigger part in our championship bid.

“If I look at the last two seasons, I have to admit that it has not made me happy.

“I wanted more out of this move but when you are not playing it is difficult to remain enthusiastic.”
