Liverpool have agreed a fee to sign Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez from Dutch club Ajax for €26.5m.
The deal for the 24-year-old striker is subject to the Uruguayan striker passing a medical and agreeing personal terms with the Premier League club.
Liverpool have had to nearly double their original £12.7m offer to ensure Ajax would sell Suarez.
Having received that bid, Ajax told Liverpool to come back with a more “respectful” offer for the striker.
In a statement, Liverpool have confirmed that: “They had agreed a fee of up to €26.5m with Ajax for the transfer of Luis Suárez, subject to the completion of a medical. The club have now been given permission by Ajax to discuss personal terms with the player and his representatives.”
Suárez has made clear his desire to move to Merseyside. The striker joined Ajax in 2007 and has scored 81 goals in 108 league games for the Amsterdam club.
