Liverpool have signed Southampton’s Welsh international Paul Jones in a one-month loan as cover for Chris Kirkland and Jerzy Dudek, both of whom are struggling with injuries.

“This move is a dream come true,” said fan Jones, a Liverpool fan.

Kirkland has been ruled out for a month with a broken finger while Dudek suffered a groin strain in Wednesday’s 1-0 win at Chelsea and could be out for two to three weeks.

The 36-year-old is delighted with the opportunity to spend a short spell with the team he supported as a boy.

“I got a phone call from (Southampton manager) Gordon Strachan yesterday afternoon telling me that Liverpool were interested and he told me to think it over.”

“It didn’t take me long to decide I wanted to come here,” Jones told Liverpool’s website.

“The deal is only for a month but from my point of view it’s a month at one of the biggest clubs in Europe, if not the world.”
