Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry has not given up hope of signning Real Madrid midfielder Luis Figo.

The Portuguese international is reportedly close to agreeing a deal with Inter but Liverpool are still in the hunt.

“It’s been a little quiet recently as he’s away with Real but he remains an option,” said Parry.

Reds manager Rafael Benitez described Figo as a “very good player” but added: “We do not have anything new to say.”

Figo looked set to move to join Liverpool on a free transfer earlier in the summer, although the move collapsed when Real demanded a fee for the 32-year-old.

However, according to Gazetta dello Sport the winger is poised to join Inter on a two-year deal.
