Djurgardens IF claimed the Swedish title for the first time since 1966 when they defeated IF Elfsborg at the weekend.

Djurgarden were second last term and this seasson’s triumph is their 9th Swedish title.

Goals from Johan Elmander and Andreas Johansson earned Djurgarden a 2-0 win against IF Elfsborg.

Malmo, who were the only team that could have denied Djurgardens the title went down 1-0 to Halmstad.

“We have been the best team during the whole season and have won the championship deservedly,” said Djurgarden midfielder Stefan Rehn.
