Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has confirmed his club are interested in signing Chelsea defender Glen Johnson.
The 21-year-old defender, who cost Chelsea £6m when he joined from West Ham in 2003, has barely figured for the Premier League champions this season.
With Lyon set to lose several defenders to African Cup of Nations call-ups, they regard Johnson as a possible signing.
“Gerard Houllier has asked us to carry out some research during the break,” said Aulas. “This is what we did.
“There is a matter of timing in being able to present themselves immediately or for next June.
“Glen Johnson is one of the people that we are following closely.
“There are one or two others, internationals like him, that we could sign.
“That does not depend only on us, but also on his club Chelsea.”
