Marseille moved level with Ligue 1 leaders Monaco last night when they beat 14th placed Le Havre 2-0.

Monaco put daylight between themselves and Marseille when they beat champions, Lyon on Tuesday night. Goals from Russian striker, Dmitri Sytchev on 16 minutes and Belgian Daniel Van Buyten took Marseille level on points with Monaco but still second on goal difference.

Nice blew the chance to join Monaco and Marseille at the top when they lost to bottom of the table Troyes. The result, which saw Nice slip to fourth, came courtesy of a goal from Rafik Saifi on 3 minutes following a Nice penalty miss.

Auxerre move into third place, on 43 points, with a last minute 2-1 victory over third-from-bottom Sedan. Sedan went ahead on 3 minutes when Cameroon’s Pius N’Dief scored and it took until 62 minutes for Auxerre to equalise when in-form striker Djibrill Cisse scored withhis tenth goal of the season. Yann Lachuer scored the winner on 88 minutes.

Auxerre manager, Guy Roux, refused to talk up his sides chances of winning the league.

“We can finish first like we can finish 12th,: said Roux.

:It’s a very, very close race.”

In France’s other games 5th placed Bordeaux drew 3-3 away to 9th Lens, while nine man Paris Saint-Germain lost 1-0 to Bastia.
