Roma defender Phillipe Mexes has been hit with a six-week suspension from FIFA, following a bitter tug of war between the Italian giants and Mexes’ former club Auxerre.
The French International joined the Rome club in June in a 4-year deal, but according to the French club, Mexes was still under contract with them.
The French football league has refused to allow him to leave, causing FIFA to step in and suspend the player from September 12 onwards, as well as fining Roma an undisclosed fee.
According to his agent Olivier Jouanneaux, Mexes will appeal the decision with the Court of Arbitration for Sport based in Lausanne.
