Former France coach Henri Michel has been appointed new manager of African Champions League runners-up Raja Casablanca.

Michel replaces will replace Belgian coach Walter Meeuws who was sacked after slump in form that saw Raja drop to 12thplace in the Moroccan first division table.

Michel, 55, a former French international midfielder who as coach steered France to third place in the 1986 World Cup finals in Mexico, is no stranger to Morocco.

He coached the national team until 2000 before going on to hold similar jobs with the United Arab Emirates and Tunisia. He quite his post with Tunisia in March last year despite leading them to the World Cup finals.
