South Africa have called up Teboho Mokoena into their African Nations Cup squad, replacing injured Ajax player Steven Pienaar amid continuing controversy surrounding preparations for the tournament.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) is embroiled in a legal battle with suspended coach Ephraim “Shakes” Mashaba. Mashaba was suspended for a breach of contract SAFA has yet to decide whether to reinstate him.

Mashaba is due to return to court on Thursday to appeal against the week-long suspension.

South Africa are drawn in Group D at the Nations Cup along with Nigeria, Morocco and Benin.
