Monaco have confirmed they are interested in taking Manchester City striker Nicolas Anelka back to France.
The runners-up in last season’s Champions League final are keen to sign another forward before and have targeted Anelka or Barcelona’s Javier Saviola.
“We are very interested in both Anelka and Saviola and are keen to sign one of these players,” Monaco spokesman Pierre-Joseph Gadeau told the BBC.
“We think Nicolas may want to play for Monaco but we will find out more soon.”
“I don’t think it is so much he would want to just come back to France because it is his home but because Monaco would be a good option.
“We have considered either a permanent transfer or a loan deal but with Anelka it would, of course, depend on Manchester City.
“They would both be good signings but it will just be one and it should be much clearer in the next three or four days.”
