Jose Mourinho has admitted he would be interested in becoming the next England manager.

The former Chelsea coach is currently out of work following his Stamford Bridge exit earlier this season.

Mourinho has been linked with the vacant post along with Italian Fabio Capello, although The FA have refused to confirm that either man is a candidate.

When asked whether he could be the next England manager, he told Sky Sports News: “Why not?”

“Being England manager is a big job,” he added. “A big job is what I want.

“I’m not using The FA to get another job. I was upset when I heard the reports.

“People need to trust The FA. They should let them do their job properly. The fans should support the next man more than ever.”

Mourinho was reported to be on his way to England for talks with the FA, but claimed that he wanted some time out of the limelight.

“To be fair I’d like to be alone with my family for a couple of days,” he added.

“No one believed why we were in London. So to try and dampen the speculation we decided not to go and to stay here.”

Mourinho is one of five men on an FA shortlist; the other four candidates are reported to be Capello, former Germany coach Jurgen Klinsmann, Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill and Italy’s World Cup winning coach Marcello Lippi.
