Manchester United chief executive Peter Kenyon has stated that Rio Ferdinand will be the last big summer signing at Old Trafford, thus confirming that the club will not be pursuing theirinterest in signing Brazilian striker Rivaldo.
“We are not looking for new players,” Kenyon declared.
“We concentrated on what we thought was our single number one target and that was Rio.
“There is a limit to the squad size you can have. Top players want to play, not sit on benches.”
Rio Ferdinand completed his £30 million move to Manchester yesterday and manager Aex Ferguson hinted that there may be more new signings before the summer is out. However, Kenyon’s comments imply that there will be no further expenditure at the club.
Rivaldo, who at the weekend agreed to terminate his contract with Barcelona with immediate effect, claimed that Manchester United were one of several clubs interested in signing him.
