Speaking on the eve of the draw forthe World Cup finals, England striker Michael Owen believes England can go all the way next summer.
“People have talked about this being the golden generation for us, and they’re right to do so,” Owen told The Mirror.
“We went to Japan to get experience ahead of this World Cup and now we are looking to make the big step and win something.
“The quality of our side makes me believe in this team. I don’t think anybody can look at the team we’ve got and argue against the quality of our players,” continued Owen.
“If we turn up in Germany all fully fit, then we’ll have as good a chance as anyone, and as good a chance as we’ve ever had.
“We wouldn’t be fearing anyone at all, and rightly so.”
Last month’s friendly victory over Argentina has further boosted confidence.
“The Argentina game really gave us a lot of confidence. It’s made us realise that on our day we can beat any team in the world,” added Owen.
“That’s why even if we draw one of the top sides early, we will be confident. Ideally we’d like to avoid Holland, Portugal and Sweden – because I don’t think anyone wants to go through a game like we did in Japan against them.
“Being a top seed is really important. I think as a rule the World Cup initial groups are easier than a European Championship but as you progress through the competition it gets harder and harder.”
