Porto coach Jose Couceiro has left the club after they failed to retain their league title.

Couceiro, who took over in February, was their third manager this season after Jose Mourinho was replaced by Luigi Delner following his move to Chelsea.

However, in the wake of Porto’s failure to land the league title, has decided to stand down.

“I declined the invitation from the management to remain in the club soccer structure,” Couceiro said.

“Before the game, regardless of the outcome of the championship, I would have liked to accept the invitation the management gave me to continue working for Porto, but now I think the situation would not be good for me or for the club.

“However, I leave happy.”

Reports suggest that AZ Alkmaar’s Co Adriaanse is set to take over.
