Portugal have installed youth coach Agostinho Oliveira as caretaker coach for the full national side, following Antonio Oliveira’s dismissal in the wake of the country’s dismal World Cup performance.
Oliveira will be in charge of the national side for the fprthcoming friendly matches against England September 7 and Sweden on October 16. As hosts of EURO 2004, Portugal do not have to pre-qualify for the finals.
Antonio Oliveira’s was contracted to the Portuguese FA until the end of the 2004 European championships, but after presiding over a poor World Cup campaign which saw Portugal lose two of their three group matches, his departure was regarded as inevitable.
