Raul has criticised his fellow Real Madrid striker Ronaldo for his comments about the club’s fans, saying they disturbed the “magic” of the Champions League.

Ronaldo made his outburst before the Champions League game against Arsenal on Tuesday, saying: “The fans have never accepted me and their reaction is something to take into account when thinking about my future.”

Raul, who appeared as substutute against Arsenal, adding to his recrod as the Champions League’s leading appearance-holder, said: “Ronaldo disturbed the magic of the Champions League. It wasn’t ideal.”

Ronaldo had said before the game that he was considering his options amid reports that Inter and Milan would like to sign him. Some fans whistled Ronaldo when he was on the ball in Tuesday’s defeat.

Raul insisted that the players were behind the Brazilian, however. “We are all with Ronaldo. We need him at his best. He is loved at the Bernabeu when he produces the goods.

“The fans are demanding with everyone, and we will help him in every way we can. But he must do his part as well.”
