Real Madrid Florentino Perez has acted to dispel speculation that the European champions were preparing a bid for Manchester United’s David Beckham.

Beckham has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer following a well-publicised bust-up with United boss Sir Alex Ferguson. However, rumours circulating in Spain that Madrid were interested in securing the servcies of the England captain, appear to be unfounded.

“Beckham is a great player,” Perez admitted.

“But I do not want to create any expectations that he may be coming here and then have to tell you that is not coming.

“We are not looking to make any large moves in the market.”

With Italy’s Internazionale and now Real Madrid, confirming that neither club can afford him, the likelihood is that Beckham will remain at Manchester United for the foreseeable future.
