New Thailand coach Peter Reid says he hopes to lead the country to their first World Cup finals.
The former Sunderland, Manchester City and Leeds manager, who signed a four-year contract with Thailand on Friday, has revealed his plans to turn the country into a force at world level.
“I want to get the right mentality here and get Thailand up the world rankings,” Reid said.
“When the next World Cup comes around, I need to build a team capable of competing and qualifying It’s all about hard work, the right attitude and mentality to be winners.”
The 52-year-old admits language difficulties could present a problem, but he intends to familiarise himself with the local culture.
He joked: “I’m from Liverpool; I can’t even speak English very well. I don’t know if I can handle Thai.”
