Juan Roman Riquelme has admitted he would play for Boca Juniors for free if they could afford to buy him from Villarreal.
The Argentinian midfielder is looking for a permanent move back to Boca after spending a successful spell on loan last season. Villarreal say they would be prepared to sell Riquelme, but it is unlikely that Boca could match the Spanish club’s €15m valuation.
Reports have claimed Tottenham have made an offer for the 29-year-old, but Riquelme admits he would prefer to return to his homeland.
“I have two years left on my contract at Villarreal, but if Boca sign me then I have told their officials I would play a year for free,” Riquelme told Canal 13.
“Last Sunday I spoke with Boca officials to tell them my idea and my intention to return to the club.
“I said to them that if they respect the two years I have left with Villarreal then I will play a third year for free.
“At the moment I haven’t had any response from Boca.”
