Newcastle winger Laurent Robert has revealed that Marseille have approached him over a possible move.
Marseille have appointed agent Robert’s agent, Pape Diouf, as general manager, and the former PSG winger admits he has been appproached about a possible move to the Stade Velodrome
“L’OM is following me and wants to hire me,” Robert told France Football.
“Jose Anigo is keen to welcome me. Pape Diouf who is my agent would be delighted if I join the team.
“I appreciate such an important club is seriously following me. I am attracted by the Marseille challenge.
One major stumbling block could well be Robert’s wage demands. He currently earns more at Newcastle than Marseille would be willing to pay him.
“However Marseille will have difficulties to match my wages demand. In England the wages are very important. I am happy to reduce my wages but just a little.”
Despite the interest in him, Robert denies he is looking to leave Newcastle.
“I am fine at Newcastle, we always have good results. I have a lot of fun,” added Robert.
“I still have two years remaining on my contract. But anyway the door is still opened.
“Marseille knows what to do to sign me. I would like Paris too. I spent two great seasons there.”
