Essex non-league side Dagenham & Redbridge overcame second division outfit Plymouth Argyle winning 2-0 in their FA Cup 3rd round replay.
Easy to understand on a night like this why England’s domestic cup competition more than any other country’s, captures the public’s imagination.
The goals were scored by gardener Danny Shipp and Sky One’s Dream Team actor Junior McDougald. The latter certainly gave a good performance last night, his diving header with 6 minutes to go the perfect finale to a classic cup tie.
“A tremendous day for the club,” said boss Garry Hill. They meet Norwich City in the next round.
The only Cup game last night involving premiership teams saw TWO relegation favourites battle it out. Sunderland beat Bolton Wanderers 2-0 after extra time.
Argentine midfielder Julio Arca came in from the cold to score the first 8 minutes into extra-time, the ball falling to him after Kevin Kyle miscontrolled it.
Then young Michael Proctor, enjoying himself this season with some vital goals, curled one in to make it safe.
Elsewhere in the evening games, Reading, Bournemouth, Millwall, Norwich and Barnsley all went through.
