After being released from club Fluminense yesterday, Romário is in the news again, being linked with former club Vasco da Gama, with whom he enjoyed such success just a few years ago.

Directors of the Rio deJaneiro club entered into conversation with Romário, and as Brazilian news agency ‘Placar’ reports, “a decisive meeting will happen in the near future.”

However, Vasco have not released any details yet.

Vice-president of the club José Luís Moreira merely stated that “the doors of the São Januário stadium will always be open to Romário”, confirming what club president, Eurico Miranda had already made clear.

However, Placar adds that “he [Moreira] knows that his boss is in negotiations with the player.”

Vasco’s aim is to provide Romário with a team with which he can end career, and have promised him the opportunity to reach the 1000 goal mark. The line-up of the team for 2005 will be designed with this in mind. Vasco also promise to retire the number 11 shirt that he made his own in the
national team, stretching a period of some 14 years.
