Ronaldo’s departure from Internazionale for Real Madrid is still on the cards.

Sources close to the European champions believe that the occasion of the G-14 general meeting in Monaco could provide club presidents Massimo Moratti and Florentino Perez with the opportunity to seal the deal.

The clubs have been negotiating delicately over the amount of cash and player exchange values for the Brazilian who told Moratti yesterday he still wants to quit Italian football.

A key piece in the deal is likely to be Madrid centre-forward Fernando Morientes. A clear-the-air meeting between Morientes, his agent and Madrid sports director Jorge Valdano was postponed earlier this week.

The official reason was family reasons on behalf of Morientes however it is understood the meeting was delayed because Valdano had nothing new to report at that stage about the Spain striker’s possible departure for Inter.

The UEFA activities in Monaco, which include tomorrow’s European Supercup clash between Real Madrid and Feyenoord, could also see a decision over the future of Sporting Portugal striker Mario Jardel.

Barcelona remain interested in the Brazilian who has been refusing to train with Sporting because of depression after the break-up of his marriage.
