Real Madrid are poised to sign Javier Saviola from Barcelona on a free transfer.

The 25-year-old Argentinian who joined Barca in 2001, said: “The intention has always been to join Real. When both parties are keen it is easy to reach an agreement.”

“I have to put the past behind me and now I’m in another very important club,” he added.

“I believe I’m coming to one of the best institutions in the world and that is very pleasing.”

He will put pen to paper on a four-year deal.

The Spanish champions have also signed 23-year-old Porto defender Kleper Laveran Lima Ferreira for £20m.

The Brazilian is confident he will justify the extravagant transfer fee.

“I am going to be very committed and get my shirt wet with sweat, it is up to me to show how much I am worth,” he said.

Real keeper Iker Casillas added: “If Real want to spend that amount on a player it is because he is worth it and very talented.”
