German coach Bernd Schuster has dismissed reports claiming he was being lined up to replace Louis van Gaal at Barcelona.

“This is all a bit of a joke,” said the former Barcelona midfielder now in charge at Spanish second division club Xerez.

“I’m not going to get involved in this type of rumour. I’m happy here at Xerez.”

Barcelona incumbent Van Gaal is under growing pressure following the 4-2 weekend defeat at home to 10-men Valencia, which left the club floundering in 10thplace in the Spanish league, 17 points behind leaders Real Sociedad.

Spanish newspapers had reported that Barcelona made an approach to Schuster about a return to the Nou Camp, but the Germam who also played for Real and Atletico Madrid, denied any contact had taken place.

“Every week they invent a story saying I’ve had meetings with Barcelona directors,” Schuster added.
