Portugal’s Brazilian coach Luiz Felipe Scolari says he has had no contact with the English Football Association in connection with replacing Sven-Goran Eriksson as coach of the England team.
“I have had no contact with the English federation,” he told journalists.
“At times conclusions are drawn which are not connected to the truth.”
In an interview with the BBC on Sunday, Scolari said: “I know if I want to take over England I need to learn the language more.”
Scolari led Brazil to their fifth World Cup title in 2002, before becoming coach of Portugal who he led to the final of Euro 2004. Since the news that Eriksson will be leaving his post after the World Cup, Scolari was installed as one of the favourites to replace the Swede.
“In the interview, I said I wanted to learn English, just like I want to learn other languages to become a more educated person,” Scolari said.
“Just because I said I would learn English does not imply I have agreed anything with England.
“I already rejected various invitations from many important clubs and I have already said 180 times that I am very happy in Portugal.”
Despite the speculation, Scolari has repeatedly stated that he wants to stay with Portugal.
