Real Madrid midfielder Santiago Solari will stay at the club following Inter’s failure to agree a deal with the player.
‘We were going to give ourselves until January 30to see if an agreement could be reached,’ The Spanish side’s sporting director Jorge Valdano told Radio Marca.
‘But things have not been sorted out and we have decided not to let the matter drag on. So from now on the player will be available to the coach once more.’
‘Inter made an offer that was well below what Solari earns at Real Madrid and so we believe that they have not honoured the agreement we made.
‘Inter will have their own point of view about this and we will now have to get someone to mediate over the issue,’ added Valdano.
Solari’s proposed move to Inter was part of the Ronaldo transfer deal which Real negotiated with the Serie A club at the start of the season.
The Italian side were offered a choice of €10 million or the pick of either Steve McManaman or Santiago Solari. Inter declared their preference for Solari but the Argentinian has always maintained he is happy to stay and fight for his place at the Bernabeu. That Inter were not prepared to match his wages at Real, may well have played a part in his decision.
