Sparta Prague have confirmed that Jiri Kotrba will succeed Jozef Jarabinsk as the club’s new coach.

Jarabinsk was sacked from his position on Tuesday. Although Sparta lead the Czech league at the halfway stage, Jarabinsk was sacked because of the club’s elimination from both the Champions League and the UEFA Cup.

“The title cannot replace the loss of _6.5m,” said Sparta chairman Vlastimil Kostal of his club’s Champions League exit.

“Everybody expects that Sparta will be champions. But if I fail I will ask the club to release me,” said theex-Sigma Olomouc coach.

“I have done nothing this season to deserve it,” added Kotrba, who was sacked by FC Pribram earlier inthe season, before taking temporary charge of SK Sigma Olomouc.
