Bolton have signed Gary Speed from Newcastle for £750,000. The Welsh captain is expected to join the Wanderers squad when they return from their trip to Portugal.
The 34 year-old’s first appearance for the Premiership club may be in a friendly at Bradford on Saturday.
Bolton manager Sam Allardyce is relieved to have finally wrapped up the deal.
“I am delighted to sign a player of Gary’s quality. He’s a very experienced Premiership player and will add much needed depth to our squad,” he said.
Speed apparently chose to move to the Reebok Stadium because of the atmosphere at the club and turned down offers from Premiership and Football League sides.
Meanwhile, Bolton are being accused of ‘scandalous behaviour’ in unsettling another transfer target.
Wolves manager Dave Jones has alleged that Wanderers’ approaches for Senegal international Henri Camara, has further upset the striker, who is currently refusing to rejoin the Championship side because he wants a move back to the Premiership.
Jones claimed that Bolton knew Wolves’ asking price for the player.
“I don’t know what they are playing at,” said Jones. “They are just making the boy unsettled and they keep upsetting him. The situation is becoming a bit annoying and now they should put up or shut up,” he said on the club’s official website.
